Blog: Social networking sites

Social networking sites share many similarities and have specific differences. For the most part platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn all have a main goal to spread information, connect with other people, and build an internet influence. All can also be used to market an organization or company. However, we will dive into some details of each platform which make them different than others. Facebook for example, sustains a large user base but is more of a formality platform used by older generations and family minded users. While, Twitter is utilized from providing announcements by organizations, sharing opinions of people around the world, and much more. Twitter allows people to express and build a personality of their own. Compared to Twitter and Facebook, Instagram is a safe medium. It allows users to present their daily lives in a fun and unique way, while also having a level of formality within itself (also another reason it is so popular). LinkedIn stands out the most out of the three mentioned prior. LinkedIn focuses on providing users the opportunity to truly network, build their connections, present their professional experience, and find future job openings all in one application. Furthermore, LinkedIn has grown incredibly and has been able to connect younger and older generations more than any other platform due to the hand down of knowledge and experience. There are many other unique social media sites all with their own advantages, but the baseline will still remain constant: to network, learn, and grow from those on the platform.

  1. I find it very interesting that you call Instagram "The safe medium" of social media platforms. I like using Instagram as well and find it more useful than Facebook despite the face that Instagram is owned by Facebook. Unfortunately, Instagram suffers from the same data privacy issue as Facebook but Facebook's bad reputation is a lot more pronounced than Instagram.

BLOG: Blog v Wiki

In today's age of New Media a plethora of tools are available to communicate, store, and present information across the wold wide web. Blogs and Wiki pages have been at the forefront of this notion. However, often times there is confusion and overlap between the two and their individual goals and purposes. To be frank a blog is created usually from the perspective of an individual or group and that party presenting it's ideas, thoughts, and news via this platform. On the other hand, a Wiki page is to be utilized to hold information, history, useful links, and general knowledge about a specific subject. Wiki pages and blogs can also be used within organizations to communicate and hold information related to specific processes and functions. It is important to note an important quirk of a wiki page is the fact that often times any individual can come and edit the information, this fact is still true for the most part. However, recently CNN posted an article titled "Wikipedi...

Creativity and New Media

In this post you will find my personalized Bitmoji! This software allows me to create my own personal avatar that I can use on Snapchat, iMessage, and other platforms. It has been fully customized from all the features of my face and body to the clothes I wear. Certain software also allows users to create unique stickers such as the Halloween themed one in this post. I would highly recommend all individuals to create a Bitmoji and express themselves in their own unique ways!

Blog: Wiki So Far

I have thoroughly enjoyed working through the New Media Wiki so far. I have focused my efforts on the Real Estate topic and have added five paragraphs in regards to how an agent should help a buyer in the process of purchasing a home. I have added multiple links and photos within each section. Furthermore, I look to focus now on editing content of my peers and seeing how I can ensure their hyperlinks, photos, and other links function correctly. Along with that, I may look to add more detail into the real estate section in regards to what a seller may expect from an agent and the entire process. All in all, my wiki experience has been positive and I have learned a lot about how to apply new media concepts to daily topics in life.
