Blog Social Networking

Social Media has become a platform for so many people, groups, and organizations to share information, network, and spread the wealth of knowledge and experience around the world. From an organization or business prospective social media has drastically changed how businesses market, understand consumers, and grow their future. While on an individual level social networking has given so many people the opportunity to stay up to date with world-wide news, friends, and even career related information. It has truly become a world of it's own and consumed the minds of many, especially younger generations. One of the biggest notions about social media is the concept of how open and free it is. In an article by the Chicago Tribune, "Facebook search: Facebook adding search feature" it is noted how Facebook is adding a new search feature which would allow users to reach more people, information, and places in a customization and open format. Ideas like these can have many consequences, at times information people may think is private and within their own circle is now available to millions. Along with that, the concept of freedom without boundaries is somewhat scary. Not knowing details of the individuals accessing your pages and taking screenshots of your information could jeopardize so much one for someone. On the other hand, a piece on NPR titled "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" notes the positive impact of platforms such as LinkedIn. LinkedIn has created an ongoing virtual networking event for individuals with professional jobs in various industries and allows users to share their experience, promotions, and most importantly job opportunities! LinkedIn has given so many people who have been unsure about their career the comfort and opportunity they needed to further grow and expand in their industry. I believe it is safe to say that regardless of the platform social media and networking has become a part of our lifestyle and can have great implications on our lives. It is important to be wary of what we all post, but also take advantage of the limitless knowledge and connections there are to gain from it. The future of social media is uncertain, however the most important topics to be discussed will be user privacy and security of information.

Blog: P2P

P2P stands for "peer to peer" file sharing. This concept often exists at many large organizations and businesses and allows groups to share information, data, and files among their coworkers easily and have data be readily accessible. File sharing in general is putting one's files and data in a location where it may be accessed or even edited by others. Peer to peer focuses on limiting that group to direct coworkers or a set number of individuals. Some of examples of P2P file sharing are organizations utilizing software such as OneDrive. This platform allows users to save all of their data and access it on any device in which they can log into their Microsoft Account. A user may create folders within OneDrive that are shared with other users and apply user roles based on access levels. Another popular tool created by Microsoft is Teams. Teams is organizational tool which is based off the concept of sharing files, managing tasks, and coordinating meetings with other group...

Blog: Next New

I believe the future of New Media is bright. Some of the latest advancements in technology have connected people and been one of the most powerful forms of new media such as augmented and virtual reality. I find in the near future and newer method of new media will be the development of virtual advertisements. Aka these are advertisements made from holograms or projected light onto any surface where companies can market themselves at a lower cost and more freely. It may even already exist but due to legal reasons is not used often. However, I feel like having the ability to allow an individual to market as they wish, whenever, and wherever is incredibly important and influential.

Blog: Social networking sites

Social networking sites share many similarities and have specific differences. For the most part platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn all have a main goal to spread information, connect with other people, and build an internet influence. All can also be used to market an organization or company. However, we will dive into some details of each platform which make them different than others. Facebook for example, sustains a large user base but is more of a formality platform used by older generations and family minded users. While, Twitter is utilized from providing announcements by organizations, sharing opinions of people around the world, and much more. Twitter allows people to express and build a personality of their own. Compared to Twitter and Facebook, Instagram is a safe medium. It allows users to present their daily lives in a fun and unique way, while also having a level of formality within itself (also another reason it is so popular). LinkedIn sta...
