I believe the future of New Media is bright. Some of the latest advancements in technology have connected people and been one of the most powerful forms of new media such as augmented and virtual reality. I find in the near future and newer method of new media will be the development of virtual advertisements. Aka these are advertisements made from holograms or projected light onto any surface where companies can market themselves at a lower cost and more freely. It may even already exist but due to legal reasons is not used often. However, I feel like having the ability to allow an individual to market as they wish, whenever, and wherever is incredibly important and influential.
Social networking sites share many similarities and have specific differences. For the most part platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn all have a main goal to spread information, connect with other people, and build an internet influence. All can also be used to market an organization or company. However, we will dive into some details of each platform which make them different than others. Facebook for example, sustains a large user base but is more of a formality platform used by older generations and family minded users. While, Twitter is utilized from providing announcements by organizations, sharing opinions of people around the world, and much more. Twitter allows people to express and build a personality of their own. Compared to Twitter and Facebook, Instagram is a safe medium. The concept of virtual advertisements seems very interesting! It would be unique for companies to adopt this method because it would push the industry standards on marketing efforts. As more and more people turn to online resources to shop and browse (especially seen during this Covid pandemic) it is vital for companies to find new ways to market while also reducing expenses. The incorporation of augmentation and virtual reality could possibly be the new thing for various companies. I agree with your concluding statement, however, I believe that if there was no guiding system as to how marketing is coordinated and enacted it can lead to more harm than good.
