Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual Reality is an up and coming concept. Whether it is a video game console, consulting company, or home design business virtual reality is seeming to encompass it's influence throughout society. The basic concept is to be able to create, build, and experience a virtual world outside of the one we currently live in and through various software, testing, and development make the world as real as possible. Virtual Worlds are being utilized throughout industries, organizations, and cultures. In the Washington Post Article, "At Hearing, Real and Virtual Worlds Collide", details about how "a virtual depiction of the Rayburn House Office Building meeting room was projected on television screens" describes the use of virtual reality in a political environment. In most cases governmental institutions are the last groups to apply the use of such technologies but as it can be seen the influence is rising. However, some of the cons of Virtual Worlds can be seen in the New York Times piece "I've been in that club, just not in real life" depicts the details of building virtual worlds in which individuals can escape you strips of the real world and reveal their true self via an electronic platform. To some extent this is helpful in helping and individual realize who they truly and how they define themselves however, I believe it is important to draw a line and connect back to the real world and apply the openness one had received there. However, I do believe that Virtual Worlds foster creativity by allowing one to express themselves and their ideas without judgement and without a worry of time. I believe the future of this concept is vast, if the technology is further developed and the price of using and applying it or larger scales becomes more affordable, many disruptions will happen throughout the construction, selling, and hardware industries.

Blog: Wiki So Far

I have thoroughly enjoyed working through the New Media Wiki so far. I have focused my efforts on the Real Estate topic and have added five paragraphs in regards to how an agent should help a buyer in the process of purchasing a home. I have added multiple links and photos within each section. Furthermore, I look to focus now on editing content of my peers and seeing how I can ensure their hyperlinks, photos, and other links function correctly. Along with that, I may look to add more detail into the real estate section in regards to what a seller may expect from an agent and the entire process. All in all, my wiki experience has been positive and I have learned a lot about how to apply new media concepts to daily topics in life.

Blog: P2P

P2P stands for "peer to peer" file sharing. This concept often exists at many large organizations and businesses and allows groups to share information, data, and files among their coworkers easily and have data be readily accessible. File sharing in general is putting one's files and data in a location where it may be accessed or even edited by others. Peer to peer focuses on limiting that group to direct coworkers or a set number of individuals. Some of examples of P2P file sharing are organizations utilizing software such as OneDrive. This platform allows users to save all of their data and access it on any device in which they can log into their Microsoft Account. A user may create folders within OneDrive that are shared with other users and apply user roles based on access levels. Another popular tool created by Microsoft is Teams. Teams is organizational tool which is based off the concept of sharing files, managing tasks, and coordinating meetings with other group...

BLOG: Blog v Wiki

In today's age of New Media a plethora of tools are available to communicate, store, and present information across the wold wide web. Blogs and Wiki pages have been at the forefront of this notion. However, often times there is confusion and overlap between the two and their individual goals and purposes. To be frank a blog is created usually from the perspective of an individual or group and that party presenting it's ideas, thoughts, and news via this platform. On the other hand, a Wiki page is to be utilized to hold information, history, useful links, and general knowledge about a specific subject. Wiki pages and blogs can also be used within organizations to communicate and hold information related to specific processes and functions. It is important to note an important quirk of a wiki page is the fact that often times any individual can come and edit the information, this fact is still true for the most part. However, recently CNN posted an article titled "Wikipedi...
